The article is about boothbabe style gamer clans and do they hurt us or aid us. After reading it so many questions popped up in my head about the state of women and gaming. The gaming culture definately seems to be changing and now that games seem to be heading more mainstream or acceptable, we see more girls joining the ranks and girls willing to be more open about gaming. However, after seeing the types of women gamers out there, it almost seems like most girls are in it for attention, like it's a game in itself to vie for the attention of the countless male gamers out there. Most of the images are always of over-photoshopped pictures of girls with controllers or naked and covered in game paraphenalia pics...with favorite games such as Halo, Gears of War, counterstrike....etc. type games listed (you know..the popular stuff). Whatever happened to just loving games whether or not you are a hot young female...Why do we (us women) have to play up the fact that some of us like and can game as much as the next guy...For me growing up I never really thought that I was so different from your average geek. Sure, there weren't many girls playing games..but it wasn't such a big deal. So, why is it such a big deal now? What will the future hold for us female gamers? Instead of showing off how hot we are or how much we can kick your asses at fps's, will we actually move on beyond all the hype and actually sit down to talk about more interesting stuff?...I sure hope we do.

Just Finished: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

I just finished playing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and I have to say I was thouroughly impressed. The world is gorgeous, the jungles felt alive with the trees swaying in the wind and the old spanish colony buildings were very detailed. The game introduces you to a young explorer called Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher, a journalist, who is recording the adventure as Nathan searches for El Dorado, the fabled city of gold together with his friend Sully (who is looking to pay off some debts.). They bump into another group of fortune-hunting bandits searching for the same thing and the race to get to El Dorado first begins.

I found the game to be rather easy for me, pulling off a lot of headshots and the puzzles weren't difficult to solve (though they did add a 'hint' feature for those that might get stuck). The gameplay is a mix of Gears of War action and platform elements from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It took me about 11 hourse to play which I thought was a bit short, even with me spending a lot of time going over areas a few times searching for the hidden treasures to collect. Overall, I found Uncharted a great game, it made me laugh at times, the characters felt believable and reminded me a lot of watching Indiana Jones or Romancing the stone and even though it wasn't a long game I was happy that I was able to finish it. (Since I do have a life outside of video games!)

I give it a "Well worth a rental".

P.S: Unlocking the "Next-gen" filter is the funniest thing ever, if you are part of the games industry...or at least follow it, you will know what I mean ;)
